What is Engineering Plastic?

Engineering plastics constitute a class of high-performance materials that endure demanding mechanical, thermal, and chemical conditions. Unlike commodity plastics, engineering plastics deliver superior strength, durability, and resistance to wear, making them ideal for industrial, automotive, aerospace, and medical applications. These plastics remain lightweight yet replace metals and glass in various components due to their excellent mechanical properties and ability to maintain stability under stress. Engineering plastics propel modern innovation by providing solutions where reliability and efficiency matter most.
Hadco offers a wide variety of engineering plastics, each designed for specific performance needs. These materials perform effectively in machine guards, noise abatement, general safety guards and protection, work surfaces, valve seats, gaskets, pump components, ducts, and more.

Acetal Plastic

Acetal copolymer is an engineering thermoplastic based on formaldehyde polymerization technology. Acetal copolymer has a very good balance of tensile properties, shear strength, stiffness, and toughness. It is a natural-bearing material with a very low coefficient of friction against metals and major abrasion resistance. Acetal sheets and acetal rods provide high strength and stiffness coupled with enhanced dimensional stability and ease of machining. As a semi-crystalline material, acetal is also characterized by a low coefficient of friction and good wear properties in wet and dry environments. Acetal copolymer has high strength, modulus, and resistance to impact and fatigue, and its lightweight design makes it a helpful metal replacement.
